Usuki-yaki (Oita)

Usuki-yaki was firstly found by Usami-san. His idea was to promote his hometown Usuki in Kyushu to the rest of the world. Usuki was once a famous town for potteries during Edo period. In order to regain the recognition of precious pottery culture, Usami-san has built an atelier Kobo SARAYAMA and a gallery in Usuki, and named his works Usuki-yaki.

Usuki-yaki is based on a concept of our daily dining table - a piece of pottery is the frame of the dish. The creation is inspired by the surrounding mother of nature, which aims to bring the traditional culinary culture of Usuki to everyone’s dining table.
